Pilcrow Publishing was created from a deep respect for story, and the belief that it deserves to be told well.

S.D.’s background began in professional book reviewing, where she worked across a range of national publishers and literary platforms, including Penguin Random House, Bethany House, Baker Books, and NetGalley. In addition to running her own book review website, Gilt & Buckram Reviews, she contributed to outlets such as Manhattan Book Review and San Francisco Book Review, gaining experience with manuscripts across a wide range of genres and stages.

Over time, that work naturally expanded into writing and publishing her own novel, Hanging Ferns, as well as working more closely with authors to shape and refine their stories.

Today, her focus is on helping authors bring clarity, structure, and intention to their work. Whether developing a manuscript from the ground up or refining what’s already been written, the goal is always the same: to create something that reads seamlessly and reflects the author’s voice with precision.

“I believe the strongest books are built through thoughtful collaboration, where ideas are challenged, refined, and strengthened along the way.”

Pilcrow exists to help stories move forward and to ensure they are finished with purpose and care.
